Harry who?
So yeah, everyone is talking about Harry Potter. Harry this, and Harry that... And OMG!!! And spoilers, and when is the seventh coming out?!?! And... Could it be... J.K. Rowling is planning something worse....?
But I never jumped on the Potter bandwagon.
I however have recently finished one book I want to rant over and am currently in the middle of another obsession filled book.
So this may turn out to be long...
Last thought: Did you know that in a recent survey it turned out that less then 50% of Americans read books? I wonder how that coincides with the Harry phenomenon.
Howl’s Moving Castle
I Am. In. Love. By far not the best book I have read, but so sweet and enchanting that I couldn’t help but add it into my favorite list. Sophie is a young girl, cursed by the Witch of the Waste and turned into an old hag. She seeks the help of the infamous Wizard Howl, and so begins an adventure of misdeeds, mistakes, fun, friendship and love. If you’ve seen the movie but haven’t read the book, let me say this:
NOTHING LIKE THE MOVIE! DO NOT JUDGE THE BOOK BY THE MOVIE!
For those who haven’t seen it yet… Well, a few inconsistencies to keep in mind while watching it: The war doesn’t take place in the book. Michael is a teenager, not an eight year old boy. Howl is much vainer. Calcifer… Is the same. And Sophie isn’t as much of a Pollyanna.
Anyway, back to the book… It’s really sweet, not a lot of action, but it’s so great seeing things from Sophie’s point of view.. And Howl is probably the most prissy leading male that I have ever read. I for some reason see him as a Japanese J-Rock star.
karmazoo might get my drift on this one.
Moving on… It’s a great, fun read. The fun, being the keyword. If you want to enjoy a nice summer afternoon on the porch… This is the book for it. I especially love the love story that even though is told, you don’t realize it… The undercurrents are so sweet! ::beams::
Dreams Made Flesh
Oh. My. God. Anne Bishop… I bow before you. I was hesitant about this after reading the last book of the Tir Alainn trilogy… But you have re-established my faith in you. I am only half way through, so I might change my mind… But going by Lucivar’s Story… Well, I’m crunching on him now. K?
One of the most missed out side stories between the second and third book… You have made up for it amazingly. The story of Lucivar and Marian’s relationship is so sweet.. Obvious, but so much fun to read! Even though Saetan was becoming a little too Dr. Phil in it for my taste… I really enjoyed it. I love how the mighty Eyrian gets so… -Would scrambled, be a good word? I’ll use it anyway – scrambled and slightly fumbling about Marian. There were a few points here that a bit… Nagged at me, especially because I either didn’t want to read them, or wanted to see more of the affect it would make and the consequences to come from it, but all in all, it stood up amazingly with the original trilogy. So much better then The Invisible Ring!
If you liked the Black Jewels Trilogy, you MUST get your hands on this book. Fun for a stormy weather night, midday morning, any time. Minding that you don’t mind laughing out loud in public… (Cold feet, Have never been so funny.)
Now… If you will excuse my long rant… I’m off to read about Saetan.
Booky
Oooh! I wanted to see the movie. Now I want to read the book. :p
I never got into HP either. I read the first three books (actually, I skimmed one and read two and three) but feel no desire to read any of the others. And I'm sick to friggin' death of hearing about it.
I have the first book. Never made it through the first chapter. Does that say enough? .. Though, for some reason I do have the third movie... Because my friend left it here, granted... But I never returned it either.
